Compile a class created checklist of the features that will be included in their historical recounts. Focus on the structure of the text, the linguistic features and the presentation of the completed writing piece.

Students engage with the writing process to create their own historical recount. Students select an event relating to Australia’s migration history, which they will explore in greater depth. After completing further investigations on their selected topic, they create a historical recount and self-assess it against the class created criteria.

Provide opportunities throughout the writing process for students to be given and receive feedback. The class created checklist is a useful tool to assist with this process.

Compile the completed and published writing pieces into a class ‘History of Migration’ book. Publish on the class web page or hold a history launch, where students can share their recounts with others.
