    Description

    ​This bundle provides educators with resources to build and develop young children’s communication, language and literacy learning and development. It consists of a self-paced online professional learning course and five books to support and embed learning.

    The online professional learning course consists of 6 topics: listening, speaking, music and language, stories and storytelling, learning about print, and sound. The self-paced course is supported by photographs, links to Victorian Department of Education and training and videos, and reflective questions. It provides 4 hours of content.

    The books provide information, examples of pedagogy and practice, and reflective tasks for supporting children’s communication, language and literacy skills. The books are: 

    1. Foundations of Early Literacy by Sue Palmer, Ros Bayley and Bridie Raban

    2. Get Them Talking, Get Them Learning by Alistair Bryce-Clegg and Kay Margetts

    3. Storytelling and Storymaking by Judith Stevens, Bridie Raban and Andrea Nolan

    4. Stepping Stones to Stories, Songs and Rhymes by Judith Harries, Bridie Raban and Kay Margetts

    5. The Bridge to Transition by Frances Adlam. 

    Resources can be combined and used in flexible ways according to needs: as part of in-house professional learning for all educators as a team, in small groups, or individually and with families/carers.

    Detailed Costs

    Individual subscription, for online professional development course and supporting resources: $595 (excl. GST)

    Service subscription, for online professional development course and supporting resources: $1,100 (excl. GST)

    Subscription for up to 10 services across a service provider for online professional development course and supporting resources: $7,950 (excl. GST)

    Tailored program, for a service subscription to the online professional development course and supporting resources plus 4 teleconference 30 minute sessions with a facilitator: $5,100  (excl. GST)

    Implementation Considerations

    ​Target population: early childhood educators are the primary audience. Resources are also suitable for use with families/carers. 

    Program/practice descriptions and details: the program can be completed fully online (course and eBooks), or a combination of the online course and printed books. Once purchased, the resources in the bundle can be revisited to support understanding and learning and reflection on practice over time and as needed. Participants are encouraged to reflect on and apply their learning through questions provided that stimulate reflective practice and case studies.

    Staffing: the online professional learning course contains 4 hours of content

    Supervision/Coaching: a tailored program is available and includes four 30-minute teleconference sessions with a facilitator.

    Tools and systems: a digital device, speakers and internet connection are required to access the online course and e-book.
