Description
The Building Resilient Children program is an Australian-developed, research-informed program that supports educators working with children in the two years before school to build their resilience in early childhood education and care settings. The program provides differentiated strategies and guidance for learning experience design tailored to local priorities. This professional learning webinar can be delivered to any service across Victoria and optional coaching is available.
Webinar Series
The Building Resilient Children webinar series consists of five, 45 minute webinars. The webinars are self-paced. Each webinar is designed using adult learning principles and includes a definition of the topic concept, links to theory and research, connections to resilience, videos, invitations to pause and reflect on key questions, and clear practice links and strategies.
The webinar series covers the following topics:
- What is Resilience?
- Self-compassion
- Self-regulation
- Agency (which includes a section on consulting with children as a critical component of agency); and
- Belonging.
Email support is available for participants who have follow-up questions during the subscription year.
Coaching Program
The coaching program includes an annual service subscription to the webinar series and consists of between four and eight coaching visits to the early childhood service by an experienced coach (scalable for service budget) throughout one year. The coaching program includes unlimited email support and an annual subscription to the webinar series.
Through the coaching program, the early childhood service will consult with children on matters that affect them (e.g., policies on behaviour, meals/menus, environment design, program design, community participation initiatives). Consultation with children has been selected as the coaching model as it has been identified in the literature as a key way to honour and respect children’s agency, which is a critical component of resilience.
Detailed Costs
Webinar series of 5 x 45-min sessions (individual subscription): $200 (+ GST)
Webinar series of 5 x 45-min sessions (annual service subscription): $550 (+GST)
Webinar series of 5 x 45-min sessions (up to 10 services across a Service Provider): $2000 (+GST)
Coaching program (inclusive of unlimited email support and includes annual subscription to webinar series):
4 visits and 4 telephone coaching sessions: $6,000 (+GST)
6 visits and 2 telephone coaching sessions: $9,000 (+GST)
8 visits (two in each term) and unlimited phone
coaching sessions: $12,000 (+GST)
Implementation Considerations
Target population: Educators
Program/practice descriptions and details: email support is available for webinar participants who have follow-up questions during the subscription year and a PDF of key content is also included. The coaching program includes unlimited email support and an annual subscription to the webinar series.
Staffing: services should consider the cost of backfill in determining the cost of accessing the webinar series and coaching program.
Tools and systems: for the webinar series, participants are required to have access to a device which can connect to the Internet. Email and phone contacts are required for the coaching program to provide coaching support between service visits, and to email feedback notes and an action plan to participants.
