    Description

    ​This bundle comprises two ECA publications to support educators and families to build knowledge and contemporary practices around the first year of school and transitions to school. The publications are:

    • Transition to school: Communication and relationships (hardcopy)
    • First year at school: Essential tips for parents and carers (hardcopy).

    After completing the professional learning bundle, educators will have explored a range of topics including:

    • research about the importance of effective transitions to school and school-age care
    • The Transition to School: Position Statement and effective transitions
    • practical tips and real-world advice about school transitions (for parents)
    • reinforcing new experiences of learning and building partnerships with schools.

    Implementation Considerations

    ​Target population: educators and teachers working to support families with preschool children.

    Program/practice descriptions and details: the professional learning bundle is a blended, flexible, self-assessed program that can be used by individuals or teams. Fact sheets with tips and ideas on how to implement the bundle in services are available. There are also opportunities for educators to take their learning further with additional reading and resources suggestions. Publications are designed to be kept and shared with families and across educator teams. They can be revisited to support learning and building understanding over time.

    Program adaptability: the bundle is provided as hardcopy publications, posted to services across Victoria.

    Training requirements: suitable for early childhood educators at all stages of their career.

    Australian experience: the provider’s quality assurance protocol includes monitoring content for relevance to the Australian early childhood community.

    Current best implementation knowledge: the bundle is designed to be used flexibly. Services are in control of their learning and implement change according to their needs.
