The development of emergent reading and writing skills are key outcomes of early childhood education.

The Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF, 2016) highlights that children learn about the value of symbols and patterns, and how they can be used to communicate. They engage with and create texts through visual, written, and digital media.
