Purpose of this policy
To ensure that key parties below are aware of and comply with all workplace learning requirements, legislation and policies, ensuring students are provided with a safe and rewarding work placement:
- principals
- careers and workplace learning coordinators in schools,
- workplace learning coordinators in Local Learning and Employment Networks (LLENs) areas
- parents
- employers and workplace supervisors.
Policy
Principals and schools must comply with all the requirements of Part 5.4 of the
Educationand Training Reform Act 2006 and Ministerial Orders 55 (Structured Workplace Learning) and 382 (Work Experience).

Workplace Learning Coordinators located in each LLENs geographic area assist in the development of workplace learning opportunities suitable for students undertaking Structured Workplace Learning (SWL), School-Based Apprenticeships or Traineeships (SBATs) or work experience.
