The Public Administration and Safety sector covers Federal, State or Local Government legislative, executive and judicial activities and includes providing physical, social, economic and general public safety and security services; and in enforcing regulations.

  • Public Administration and Safety provided $14 billion to Victorian's output in 2013-14, representing 4 per cent of the total.
  • The sector employs approximately 148,400 people, with a growth of 23 per cent over the past five years, with the largest growth in the Public Administration sub-sector.

Industry training

  • Public Administration and Safety related courses accounted for 8,562 government subsidised enrolments in 2014. TAFE fee-for-service provision in the sector had 849 enrolments.
  • Apprenticeships grew by 5 per cent to 98 government subsidised enrolments between 2009 and 2014.
  • Traineeships grew by 195 per cent to 227 government subsidised enrolments between 2009 and 2014.
  • In 2014, 3 per cent of government subsidised enrolments related to specialised or in shortage occupations.
  • There were 23 training providers delivering government subsidised training related to the Public Administration and Safety sector in 2014. TAFEs provided 17 per cent of government subsidised enrolments in 2014. Private Registered Training Organisations' (RTOs) share of government subsidised vocational training was 76 per cent of all enrolments in 2014.
