Autism Spectrum Disorder

From Term 1 2017, Victorian government and Catholic schools will use the new Victorian Curriculum F-10. Curriculum related information is currently being reviewed and may be subject to change.

Children and young people on the autism spectrum may require personalised learning and support at a number of levels during their schooling.

This section includes information, materials and resources about the features and behaviours common to children and young people on the autism spectrum, including considerations for families.

It also provides a wide range of practical strategies and tools to support learning and creation of autism friendly environments.

The Department is supporting all Victorian government early childhood and school settings to have the skills and resources to provide personalised learning and support.

The Department has commissioned key partners to provide a wide range of information and practical resources for education professionals and families. The resources provide starting points and general guidance. However, as there is no universal approach that will suit all children and young people on the autism spectrum, the aim is to enable educators to incorporate their existing knowledge of the individual and their own professional skills with specific guidance and resources.
