Our state and our schools are culturally diverse. But recent research estimates that as many as one in five Victorian students experiences racial bullying on a daily basis at school.
Like all kinds of bullying, this kind of harassment can have a dramatic impact on the health of these students.
The Combatting Racism program helps to address this issue by building a schoolwide culture of respect and boosting the capacity of teachers to work with students of all backgrounds.
This will be delivered through creating collaborative partnerships with key multicultural community organisations, engagement with diverse communities, capacity building and developing evidence-based tools and resources for teachers and schools based on expert advice.
Through our partnership with the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, the Bully Free Fun Run will take place later in 2018 to promote social inclusion, kindness, empathy and respect - encouraging all Victorian to celebrate diversity and take a stand against bullying.
