Impact: Emerging Leaders

Designed for teachers and teacher leaders who have recently accepted school leadership responsibilities, this course focuses on key school leadership capabilities, providing practical strategies to improve the effectiveness of school leadership.

Over seven months, participants will learn to:

  • use research and data to inform decisions
  • influence colleagues to engage with improvements in practice
  • build collective efficacy as you lead change.

The course is currently open for expressions of interest through the Bastow website.

Bastow will notify all of those who express their interest when applications open.

Victorian Aspiring Principal Assessment information sessions

The Victorian Aspiring Principal Assessment (VAPA) evaluates readiness for the principal role and supports professional development through formative, actionable feedback.

For principal roles advertised after Saturday 1 January 2022, aspiring principals will need to have completed the VAPA prior to being appointed to a substantive role.

Teachers can register for an online information session to find out more about the VAPA and how it can enhance professional leadership capabilities. The VAPA is fully subsidised and available on demand.

Multiple information sessions will be held from Wednesday 6 October to Wednesday 1 December.

Registrations are open on the Bastow website and close the day before each session.

Leading by learning

This online course will strengthen the ability of teachers and leaders to maintain relationships and have respectful discussions that build shared commitment for improved outcomes.

Workshops are delivered online over four half days. Participants will learn to:

  • extend understanding of leading and building trust
  • know the difference between a control-focused and a learning-focused theory of action
  • be more learning-focused in conversations and meetings
  • integrate honesty and respect when evaluating another's practice.

There will be multiple intakes from Friday 19 November to Wednesday 1 December.

To register, and for more information including costs, refer to the Bastow website. Registrations close from Tuesday 5 October.

Planning literacy professional learning

This one-day, fully subsidised online workshop supports literacy leaders and Professional Learning Community leaders to design and plan professional learning to support their school's literacy focus.

There will be multiple intakes from mid-November.

Registrations are open on the Bastow website and close Monday 25 October.
