Free coaching for Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Improvement teachers

MYLNS Improvement Teachers can register for up to 5 free coaching sessions, available flexibly

Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Support (MYLNS) Improvement Teachers have the opportunity to access a professional coach for free.

Up to 5 one-hour coaching sessions, in either one-on-one or group formats, are now available to all MYLNS Improvement Teachers.

These sessions will provide much-needed reflection time and confidential personal support. You can use the coaching to discuss issues you are trying to resolve or to widen your skillset in areas such as:

  • building capability in others
  • giving feedback
  • managing difficult conversations
  • juggling multiple priorities
  • developing confidence.

The coaching will focus on issues relevant to you and your school, helping you to integrate what you learn in your everyday professional practice.

To help you accommodate these sessions in your busy schedule, you can access this coaching flexibly, at a time that suits you.

To register, refer to MYLNS LMS.

About the coaching

The MYLNS coaching providers are BTS Spark and Cambridge Education. Information about each provider is available on MYLNS LMS.

You can choose your provider based on your learning needs and the makeup of your MYLNS cohort. To help you decide, ask yourself:

  • What would you like to gain from coaching?
  • What are your goals?
  • What are your current challenges or areas of focus?
  • Do you have a specific area of interest within your MYLNS role?

Feedback from previous participants

'Coaching has been the best professional development I have been to for a long time,' a previous participant said.

'I wasn't sure how to increase literacy teaching across the school without making it seem like I was telling teachers what to do. My coach helped me work out how I could work with teachers and empower them.

'I have learned how to support student and teacher voice and agency, to listen better and ask better questions to encourage more dialogue. I am a far better member of teams and have learned how to support the leadership of others. I have learned to be a better learner myself and to look after myself in the process.'
