To help prepare for the roll-out of Three-year-old Kindergarten across the state, the Department is working with Ernst & Young to conduct onsite visits of every kindergarten and long day care facility in Victoria.
The purpose of the survey is to help create an accurate picture of local infrastructure and workforce capacity. The survey will help to determine which areas will need the most support to introduce or expand kindergarten programs for three-year-olds.
The survey process will see representatives from Ernst & Young meet with local councils and service providers before visiting each kindergarten and long day care service. These representatives will soon be contacting service providers and services to schedule meetings and site visits.
During the site visit, representatives will talk to services about current operations, enrolments, workforce capacity, current infrastructure and any plans for future expansion. They will also take measurements of existing indoor and outdoor spaces.
Visits will start in late May, starting with services in the 2020 and 2021 areas, and will continue across the state until September 2019. You can find list of which Local Government Areas are in these roll-out years here.
Ahead of their site visit, services will receive an information pack via email, which will include:
- an overview of the kindergarten capacity assessment program, including the plan and approach for the site visit
- information on how the data to be collected will be managed; and
- a list of the questions to be asked during the site visit, allowing services the opportunity to gather the information required to answer questions before the visit.
Kindergarten services and service providers working with us to provide this information will help the Department to plan for the roll-out, and will make sure that the support for kindergarten programs for three-year-olds is targeted in the most effective way possible.
