Early childhood services are teaching Aboriginal languages with the support of Aboriginal teachers, Elders and communities.
In Warrnambool, Uncle Locky Eccles is teaching kindergarten students the local Aboriginal language, Peek Wooroong.
Uncle Locky, a Gunditjmara Elder, is a Koorie Liaison Officer at South-West TAFE. During the language lessons, he talks about Country and language with the children.
In learning Peek Wooroong in a kindergarten setting, students gain a greater understanding of Koorie culture and enhance the kindergartens' connections to the local Koorie community.
