Innovative approach to connecting students with employers

Holmesglen Institute recently hosted an innovative ‘speed interviewing’ event, bringing employers together with students who have recently completed a qualification in civil construction or a skill set.

The event gave students the opportunity to rotate around interview stations and meet with prospective employers working on the Metro Tunnel Project’s tunnels and stations works. It also included group training organisations and labour hire companies. Prior to the session, Holmesglen provided support and assistance to prepare students for the interviews.

At the event held on 4 September 2018, a number of students were offered jobs and apprenticeships. Feedback from employers showed that students were well-prepared, demonstrated good knowledge and presented well.

The ‘speed interviewing’ event was a partnership between Holmesglen Institute and Metro Tunnel Project’s managing contractor Cross Yarra Partnerships – a consortium comprising Lendlease, John Holland and Bouygues. The skill set training is supported through the Victorian Government’s Skills Uplift Pilot Program.
