New centre focuses on education, health, wellbeing

Mahogany Rise Child and Family Centre is being upgraded to support integrated learning

Mahogany Rise Child and Family Centre has received an upgrade as part of the Frankston North Education Plan, offering integrated family, health and wellbeing services.

The centre includes the 'Our Place' model, a one-stop-shop for the community which aims to promote positive education outcomes for families and children. The Our Place model was developed as part of the partnership between the Department of Education and Training and the Colman Foundation.

The model offers parents and families access to a range of services from one location, including:

  • three-year-old kindergarten (funded from 2022)
  • funded four-year-old kindergarten
  • primary, secondary and adult education
  • maternal and child health services
  • health and wellbeing support
  • training and job seeking services.

Mahogany Rise Child and Family Centre will provide a welcoming community area, inviting parents and the wider community to share school resources.

Acting Principal of Mahogany Rise Primary School Andrew Schneider shared his excitement of the centre opening, which will provide access to better education, health and wellbeing programs for families in the community.

'We can't wait to open up the doors of our upgraded Mahogany Rise Primary School facilities to an even bigger school community in 2021,' he said.

The centre will provide a smooth transition from kindergarten to primary school by strengthening transition programs between Mahogany Rise Primary School and the onsite child and family centre.

A newly built welcoming space will integrate the centre with the primary school through a shared entrance, enabling a joint drop-off spot for parents.

Funded four-year-old kindergarten will be run by the Frankston City Council to remove the financial burden facing some families, with three-year-old funded kindergarten to be introduced from 2022.

The centre will also offer a long day care program for children aged six weeks to six years from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and free supported playgroups for eligible families.

Enrolments for Mahogany Rise Child and Family Centre are taken all year depending on vacancies.
