65,000 prep bags will soon be making their way across Victoria for every prep student about to start school.
Every year, we provide each prep student attending a Victorian government school with a library bag to mark this important milestone.
65,000 bags will be sent to over 1,124 schools across the state - just in time for 56,000 preps starting their first day of school.
Welcome to Prep
The prep bag gives families valuable information and resources for families, as well as fun activities for preppies, ensuring excellence in education from the very first day of school.
Starting school is a major transition for children and their families. It is a period of change that can be both challenging and exciting.
We're supporting children and their families to make this transition as smooth as possible. The transition experience starts well before - and extends far beyond - a child's first day of school.
This year, the bag contains: a welcome to school message, Pet Safe ruler, SunSmart photo frame, Healthy Start to School booklet, Zoos Victoria extinction board game, and much more.
The early years matter. Evidence shows that a great early childhood education can set children up to be happy, healthy and resilient, and more likely to do well academically and socially as they grow older.
Prep-approved bag design
Creative arts student and Victorian government state school graduate Emma Lucas won the prep bag design competition with her animal-themed design.
It was shortlisted from a number of incredible entries by a panel of judges, including Department of Education staff and a representative from the National Gallery of Victoria.
However, the final decision came down to one lucky prep class from Kilmore Primary who selected Emma's artwork as their favourite.
Schools will receive bags in time to hand out to their new prep students on their first day of school.
