On World Teachers' Day - 26 October – the Victorian Education Excellence Awards celebrated outstanding school professionals and education practices in Victorian government schools.

Five individuals and four teams of educators won awards. All award winners were eligible for the Lindsay Thompson Award for Excellence in Education, which recognised the most outstanding contribution to Victorian school education.

The Lindsay Thompson Award for Excellence in Education was awarded to the Principal Class Team at Narre Warren South P-12 College which includes Rob Duncan, Elizabeth Swan, Aaron Sykes, Peter Langham, Luke Abdallah, Stephen Mahoney, Monique Guerin, Ursula Guerin and Ross Larson.

The college has undergone an incredible transformation over the past three years. They have significantly improved classroom practice and school outcomes by implementing a college-wide teaching and learning model.

The team is dedicated to ensuring every student leaves school with the life skills and pathways to succeed. It has built partnerships with parents and the community; the awards recognised the team's achievements to renew local family engagement and school pride.

Principal Rob Duncan says the team have turned the college into a high performing school.

'The award recognises the achievement we've had in moving from a priority review school to a school of influence over the last few years and that's involved a lot of hard work from the leadership team, 200 staff and more than 2,000 students at the school,' Rob says.

'It also includes a lot of impetus from the community for change. They wanted a school they could be really proud of, and I think we've got one now.'

'The award is an acknowledgement of a job that's been done, but there is still a lot more work to do. This will be a good opportunity for us to improve the school further and develop it into the ideal we'd like it to be.'
