Paralympic gold medallist Matt Haanappel returns to Melba College in Croydon to visit his favourite teacher, Terry Bennett. He shares with us how Terry inspired him to be the best he could be.
Balancing the demands of swim training and school was tough for Matt. Luckily, his teacher Terry Bennett was there for him.
'What's so important to have throughout both your primary school and secondary is to have someone that you can turn to as a mentor; someone who can really inspire you to achieve the best possible you.'
'And for me personally, that was Terry,' Matt says in the video.
Following his schooling in Croydon, Matt went on to represent Australia in swimming at Paralympic Games in London in 2012, where he won his gold medal, and again at Rio in 2016.
