TAFE took sports-lover Kashif Bouns from international student to management in the AFL.
Kashif Bouns wasn't sure what to do after he finished high school in Kuwait, so he was considering a range of options.
Originally from Pakistan, Mr Bouns loved the idea of studying at another cricket-loving country, so he came to Melbourne with hopes of completing a university degree.
He discovered Victoria's TAFE system and saw it as a great option to reach his goals.
Mr Bouns says TAFE is a great pathway.
'You're learning real life skills as you're studying,' he says.
Skills to jobs
After studying an Advanced Diploma at Box Hill Institute of TAFE, Mr Bouns was able to enter the second year of a Bachelor's Degree at Swinburne University.
Along the way, he realised he loved working with multicultural communities and saw how sport could help welcome new Australians to their new home.
With a newfound passion and educational qualifications under his belt, Mr Bouns's career kicked off.
He found work as a program coordinator with Cricket Australia's GLoBALL program, a sport program for new migrants.
Since then, he's worked for major sporting organisations in similar roles including Essendon Football Club and the AFL Multicultural Program. Today, he is the General Manager of the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation.
Mr Bouns says TAFE helps people find work straight away.
'So 100 per cent, I'd say give it a go,' he says.
Thinking about TAFE
As the year ends, there's never been a better time to explore education and training options offered at TAFE.
The wide range of high quality training choices available through TAFE makes sure that all Victorians have the opportunity to get the skills they need for jobs of today — and tomorrow.
There are 12 TAFEs and four dual-sector providers that offer more than 500 courses on campuses across Victoria, as well as online, to help students achieve their goals.
Whether you are finishing school, starting your career, returning to work or making that dream career change — TAFE will take you there.
