About Barwon

The Barwon Area is postcard perfect featuring pristine beaches, ancient rainforests, world-class golf courses and wineries, small coastal towns and rural hamlets – and Victoria's largest regional city, Geelong.

Geelong derives its name from the local Wathaurong Aboriginal word ‘Djillong’, thought to mean ‘tongue of land or peninsula’.

Ideally located on Corio Bay and the Barwon River, this is a city on the move and the signs of change are everywhere, from the stunning waterfront and urban precinct to the craft breweries and hole-in-the-wall cafes that have reclaimed and reshaped the city's old industrial landscape.

Geelong is the gateway to the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula and a pathway to the stunning Great Ocean Road. It is central to surrounding regional centres like Ballarat in the northwest, Warrnambool in the southwest, Hamilton, Colac and Winchelsea to the west, and Melbourne in the north east; and only one hour away by road or rail.

Lush with lifestyle choices, the Barwon area is the idyllic location to reset your compass and reaffirm your work-life balance.
