All vocational education and training (VET) providers who receive funding from the Victorian Government are required to provide data to Higher Education and Skills on a regular basis through the VET statistical collection. Information derived from the collection is used to shape policy, monitor VET activity, evaluate initiatives and plan for the future.
Please submit your student statistical data to Higher Education and Skills via the
Skills Victoria Training System
How to get started
You must have a valid username and password to access the 'Statistical Data Submission and Validation' website.
If this is the first time you have submitted data in the collection, you will need to contact us to obtain valid login details. In an email, please provide your name, telephone number and Training Organisation Identification Number (TOID) which was issued to you by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA).
For assistance, see:
SVTS Login User Guide
What other resources do I need?
You will also need access to a range of resources in order to successfully meet the requirements of the statistical collection.
The Victorian VET Student Statistical Collection Guidelines and Validation Supplement contain all of the information you need to know about the statistical collection. These documents are essential to understanding the content, definitions and formal requirements of the collection.
Guidelines for 2017
Guidelines provide information and guidance to providers of Vocational Education and Training (VET) including eligible community-based providers about Higher Education and Skills' Group statistical submission requirements for 2017. These guidelines support the AVETMISS 7.0 changes and are to be implemented for the 2017 collection year.
Guidelines for 2016
Guidelines provide information and guidance to providers of Vocational Education and Training (VET) including eligible community-based providers about Higher Education and Skills Group statistical submission requirements for 2016. These guidelines support the AVETMISS 7.0 changes and are to be implemented for the 2016 collection year.
The Summary of Changes document incorporate details of the changes introduced in version 1 of the 2016 guidelines.
The SVTS Validations 2016 file contains all the validation rules which are applicable in 2016. This excel file format now replaces the Validation Supplement word document which was published in previous years.
Statistical data collection guidelines and associated documents from previous years are available from the
Historical Statistical Data Guideline Documents page.
The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) makes all of the critical classification tables you will require for the collection available in electronic format. The classification tables include codes and descriptions/labels for:
- ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations)
- field of education
- other reference tables used in the national AVETMISS (Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard) data collection
Statistical classification tables on the NCVER website for more information.
Nationally accredited training activity
Government Training website provides a search and browse function that allows you to find specific training packages, qualifications, courses, units of competency and registered training organisations (RTO) that are licensed to provide training in Victoria and the other States.
The website contains more information on Nationally accredited training packages, qualifications, courses and units.
Further details of Course and Module master data used by the SVTS are published within
Skills Victoria Training System
Student management software
There are a number of commercial software vendors who provide packages capable of meeting your student administration needs and are compliant with the requirements of the VET statistical collection. Contact vendors directly for more information. Unfortunately, Higher Education and Skills cannot endorse or recommend any particular package.
When assessing the ability of a package to meet your business requirements, also ensure that it is able to meet Higher Education and Skills' reporting requirements which include compliance with the
Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard (AVETMISS).
