""The Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (Utilities) industry covers Victorian sectors engaged in the provision of electricity; gas through mains systems; water; drainage; and sewage services.
  • Utilities provided $9.2 billion to Victoria's output in 2013-14, representing 3 per cent of the total.
  • The sector employs approximately 36,600 people, with a growth of 17 per cent over the past five years, with the largest growth in the Gas Supply sub-sector.

Training snapshot

  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services related courses accounted for 1,019 government subsidised enrolments in 2014. TAFE fee-for-service provision in the sector had 3,267 enrolments.
  • Apprenticeships grew by 93 per cent between 2009 and 2014 to 377 government subsidised enrolments.
  • Traineeships fell by 52 per cent between 2009 and 2014 to 71 government subsidised enrolments.
  • In 2014, 75 per cent of government subsidised enrolments related to specialised or in shortage occupations.
  • There were 11 training providers delivering government subsidised training related to the Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services sector in 2014. TAFE Institutes provided 56 per cent of government subsidised enrolments in 2014. Private Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) accounted for 33 per cent of all enrolments in 2014.
