Work by yourself and then in a team to explore and solve environmental problems…
Task 1
Individually work your way through Earth Alert! Learning Object, Chapters 1 - 4 only (LO ID L33).
- use the Glossary tab in Control to find the meaning of SWOT.
- POOCH stands for Problem Options Outcomes Choices. It allows you to look at possible solutions to a problem. Check the POOCH Diagram (Word - 32Kb)
Task 2
When you get to chapter 5 solve a new problem...
- in your team SWOT and POOCH the methane gas problem
- in your team SWOT and POOCH the tuna fishing problem.
Task 3
Use the following websites to help your team locate another environmental problem.
- SWOT and POOCH your chosen problem in your team. Research if necessary!
- in your team, create a wiki to inform others about the problem and the possible and best solutions to the problem. Include any background information that people will need to know. For information on wikis see Victorian Education Channel - Wikis
- look at all the wikis that have been created
- for each wiki that you view, have your team create one really good question about the wiki topic.
- give the wiki question to the team that owns the wiki. They are to answer the question in their wiki in a "Your Questions" section.
Evaluation
Open and complete the Rubric (Word - 45Kb) for assessment of Earth Alert task and student checklist.
