Online Learning Activities

These resources have been created to show some of the possibilities for learning and teaching using online resources and DigiLearn learning objects. Year levels are provided as a guide. Use or adapt these learning sequences...or be inspired to create your own. 

Primary

A classroom charter (Years 3 and 4) - what makes a great classroom? Create a charter to make your classroom a safe and happy place for everyone.

Earth alert (Years 3 and 4) - work by yourself and then in a team and use ‘SWOT’ and ‘POOCH’ to help solve environmental problems.

Shapes (Years 3-4) - create patterns and make shapes. Follow instructions to create bookmarks using the Microsoft toolbar.

Native garden (Years 5 and 6) - learn more about native plants and wildlife and how to be water wise. Design a native garden for your school.

Create a creature (Years 5 and 6) - experiment with ‘creature creation’ and then make a ‘Zook’ … the catch? It must be perfectly adapted to life on another planet!

Middle Years

School canteen (Years 5-8) - your team is running the school canteen! How can mathematics help you? Learn more about budgeting and healthy eating.

The tuckshop kid (Years 5-8) - a novel study exploring a range of issues including obesity, bullying, diabetes and healthy living.

Novel study - general (Years 5-9) - extension work for ‘The Tuck Shop Kid’ or a separate independent or group reading study encouraging exploration of issues.

Shrek character study (Years 5-10) - create a new character for the movie Shrek and then make it using fun online software.

Healthy lunch (Years 5-10) - conduct research, survey your friends and then work together to create a healthy recipe book to sell to parents and students!

Vikings (Years 6-9) - research Vikings! Create a Viking sea captain and plan his (or her!) adventures using interactive websites and online software.

Secondary

Seedbanks and GM foods (Years 9 and 10) - follow this web quest to learn more about a seed bank in Norway and genetically modified foods. Plan and create a podcast.

Wind power (Years 9 and 10) - learn more about wind power, turbines and farms. Research and plan a wind farm for the coast of Port Phillip Bay.
