Global Projects

Making connections with schools across the world can be a rewarding and authentic learning opportunity for students. The Principles of Teaching & Learning aim to strengthen learning communities within and beyond the school. Participating in a Global project allows students to interact communities across the globe - using technology for communication and learning.

There are many associations which assist classrooms to connect. Here are a few to consider:

Connect with a Global Project

ruMAD? http://www.rumad.org.au/ is a video sharing environment for schools. It is free to public schools and the site will be Administered and Monitored by the Education Foundation, and all users must be authenticated prior to gaining access to the interactive section of the site.

iEARN http://www.iearn.org - Started in 1988, iEARN is the world's largest non-profit global network that enables teachers and young people to use the Internet and other new technologies to collaborate on projects that both enhance learning and make a difference in the world.

Oz Projects http://www.ozprojects.edna.edu.au/sibling/home - This Australian site features online curriculum projects from across Australia. Search and browse the range of online projects in the project registry. Also includes Oz Projects http://www.ozprojects.edu.au/ moodle online learning environment.

Global SchoolNet Foundation (GSN) http://www.gsn.org/index.html - Explore community, cultural and scientific issues. The free membership program provides project-based learning support materials, resources, activities and lessons.

ePALS http://www.epals.com/ - Connects over 6.5 million students and educators in 191 countries for classroom-to-classroom penpal exchanges and cross-cultural learning projects in the world's largest online classroom community.

OZ-Teachernet http://www.oz-teachernet.edu.au/  Your portal to an Australian based educational resource offering new and existing online curriculum projects and professional discussion lists. Participation in oz-teacher projects is free.

The Global Gateway http://www.globalgateway.org.uk/Default.aspx?page=7 - This site connects teachers and is based in the UK. Choose from projects across hundreds of schools around the world. Site requires teacher registration and login.

Letters to Santa http://www.globalschoolnet.org/GSH/project/santa/index.cfm - This project has run since 1985 out of the US. When you register for this project you are matched up with a partner classroom and your students exchange their "Santa Letters".

Global Grocery List Project http://landmark-project.com/ggl/ - Students share local grocery prices to build a growing table of data to be used in social studies, science, health, mathematics, and other disciplines.

Unilever International Schools Art Project (UISAP) – a programme which allows aspiring artists to have their work displayed at London's Tate Modern gallery.

This is our time http://www.timeproject.org/ - An annual global telecommunications project for secondary schools developed in cooperation with the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network 10th November is the date of the annual 24-hour telecommunications project.

The Center for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education http://www.ciese.org/collabprojs.html - Coming out of the US these science based projects on topics such as water usage, water quality temperature and “Living Organisms” share findings from across the world to make discoveries and compare findings.
