The 14th International Conference on Thinking (ICoT) (http://www.14ththinkingconference.com) - Will be hosted by the University Putra Malaysia and held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 22 to 26 June, 2009.
ICoT is an excellent platform for meeting innovative thinkers from across the globe. It attracts world leaders in education, business and industry, health, government and community organizations including cultural, scientific and educational institutions; and focuses on advancement in thinking and practice in these areas. It is an avenue for the discussion of new ways of thinking about old problems and provides insights into advances on thinking which have brought about positive changes around the world.
The Thinking Conference brings together people who want to share with the rest of the world innovations, best practices and practical considerations on thinking which have changed their lives, other people’s lives, and the way they go about their work.
The 12th ICoT was held in Melbourne in July 2005.
Cognitive Coaching
At the heart of Cognitive CoachingSM is the concept that each of us has resources that enable us to grow and change from within. Costa and Garmston call these resources (also referred to as capacities or energy sources) "States of Mind." It is the States of Mind that the coach mediates, allowing the person to use her inner resources more effectively. There are five States of Mind: consciousness, efficacy, flexibility, craftsmanship and interdependence. A training course is offered in two 4 day sessions held in April and August 2008. Habits of Mind (http://www.habits-of-mind.net/) - There is a growing network of schools across Australia and New Zealand working collaboratively as part of the Habits of Mind Hub. Victorian Association for Philosophy In Schools (http://www.vaps.vic.edu.au) - VAPS promotes the teaching of philosophy in schools, whether primary or secondary, government or independent. The web site provides access to VCE resources, philosophy papers, details of schools offering philosophy courses and VAPS news. Programs offered through the Strategic Partnerships Program: VAPS to assist the Distance Education Centre Victoria to develop online Philosophy courses in the middle years; VAPS and National Values Framework.
New Zealand’s National Conference on Gifted Education will be held from 13-15 March 2009 with the theme of “Achieving sustainability in gifted education!”
Gifted education everywhere in the world has a history of fluctuating support. Yet if gifted children are truly to have their needs met, we must find a way of weaving gifted education permanently into the very fabric of our education system. Have a look at the Conference website.
