The following Mathematics and numeracy-related websites are grouped into DEECD resources and other resources. These links are a great resource for mathematics teachers with sites covering various aspects of mathematics teaching and numeracy.
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS): CensusAtSchool
CensusAtSchool is a student-centered online data collection and analysis project run by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Thousands of Australian students have completed the 2008 CensusAtSchool questionnaire, forming a rich database of real raw data about Australian school students available free from the ABS website. This link takes you to the CensusAtSchool data page, where you can use the random sampler to extract real raw data on student lifestyle and attitudes and explore diversity by comparing one community with another, using postcodes. Alternatively, use the range of prepared samples and information tables sourced from the CensusAtSchool database. Ready to use classroom activities based on raw, real data collected from students are also available on this site.
BBC Learning - provides an extensive array of digital resources to support the food Maths classroom.
Connect - includes unique environments for teachers, primary and secondary students. Users can search for websites, images, video and audio with all resources tagged according to audience. Topic lists of websites are clustered under the VELS.
DigiLearn - is the new way teachers can access and download the Learning Federation’s learning objects and digital resources. Teachers are now able to search online by keyword or browse by Domain to discover hundreds of different digital learning resources.
Digilearn also hosts INTEL skool, a collection of over 200 learning objects and simulations for VELS Levels 4 to 6. Just click on the skool tab along the Digilearn menu bar to access these downloadable resources.
Scaffolding practices for effective numeracy teachers (PDF - 29Kb)

Summary: Twelve scaffolding practices for effective numeracy teachers that were researched in Victorian primary schools
Teaching approaches (PDF - 55Kb) - This resource outlines Modelled, Shared and Guided teaching approaches. It is recommended that students, at different stages of their learning, experience each teaching approach depending on the topics covered and the support required for each.
The PoLT Online Professional Learning Resource contains a number of classroom activity snapshots (vignettes) which focus on particular stages of learning and explore the Principles in action within a Mathematics classroom.
Ask Dr Math - Frequently Asked Questions - Students can access the answers to frequently asked question about mathematics, ranging from topics like "What is Pascal's triangle?", "How do I name a polygon?" and "What is the order of operations?" Recommendation: This site provides students with a means of investigating important and interesting mathematics questions and encourages them to ask their own questions. Consider starting an ask DR MATHS session in your class, where students can post questions of interest to them and teachers or other students can provide the answers.
Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers - AAMT is the nation’s premier organisation of mathematics educators. Choose Teaching Resources then Online Resources for links to a wide range of resources.

Mathematical Glossary for Middle Level Students - Various mathematics dictionaries may have different definitions. These definitions are designed to be meaningful to middle level mathematics students.
National Library of Virtual Manipulatives - Learning and understanding mathematics, at every level, requires student engagement. The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives (NLVM) is an NSF supported project that began in 1999 to develop a library of uniquely interactive, web-based virtual manipulatives or concept tutorials, mostly in the form of Java applets, for mathematics instruction (K-12 emphasis).
National Literacy and Numeracy Week - National Literacy and Numeracy week celebrates literacy and numeracy education as a part of everyday life, and recognises the role of parents in supporting their children’s learning. This link includes resources for Early Years Schooling (EYS) and Middle Years Schooling (MYS) initiatives, participating schools, awards, and information for parents.
