Find practical ideas for your classroom with a focus on integrating ICT effectively into learning in all VELS domains. See examples to suit different levels and subject areas, and ideas, information and activities to try out for each of the VELS ICT dimensions. 

Learning activities integrating ICT focus on content from other VELS domains and they can involve more than one VELS ICT dimension. However, you can choose to limit what you will assess in each case.

ePotential ICT Capabilities Resource for Teachers is an online tool created for Victorian government school teachers to assist you to develop your ICT Capabilities and identify ICT professional learning needs. You can find ideas for integrating ICT into learning activities, including multimedia resources showing models and videos of classroom practice. Check out the ideas of other teachers through the digital stories and documented units of work. Use your Edumail login and password to access password-protected parts of this resource. 

FUSE (Find, Use, Share Education) is a Department website providing access to online educational resources from around the world to support student learning and teaching. The resources on FUSE have been reviewed and recommended by educators. Victorian government teachers can log in to the site using their TO number and password. This provides additional functionality and allows users to also search for Digital Learning resources previously located in Digilearn.

Learning On Line presents the Department’s advice for schools on cybersafety, and on educating young people to be safe and responsible users of digital technologies and social media tools. It includes the:

  • School Staff Policies, Guides and Agreements section that provides access to obligations and regulations for school employees
  • Using Social Media Guide section that identifies existing policies and guidelines relevant to the use of social media tools
  • Consent Forms and Templates section which assists schools to request permission to publish images, student work or copyrighted material on the web. It also contains the Acceptable Use Agreement templates that support school communities to define their expectations around the use of digital technologies
  • Teaching Safely in Online Spaces section directs schools to key Victorian government policies that determine a school’s responsibility to foster digital learning and prevent bullying
  • Teaching and Learning Resources section which defines cybersafety and the digital age and identifies 10 factors that are key to using digital technologies safely and responsibly. This section also contains the Cyber Teach Toolkit teaching and learning content
  • Working with your School Community section that supports schools to engage their entire community in promoting safe and respectful learning environments
  • Professional Learning lists courses and programs that are available to teachers free of charge.

Technology A-Z is an A-Z of technology applications and tools, and examples of how they are being used in Victorian Government schools. As learning becomes more student-centred, teachers and students need to know how to choose effective digital tools to suit particular learning purposes. 

eLearning and ICT Showcase highlights examples of the innovative and effective uses of ICT for learning and teaching. There are supporting ideas and resources for you to consider. Currently there are 14 showcases highlighting innovative uses of ICT at different levels and in different domains of VELS, including ePlanning, Kahootz,1-to-1 and Interactive Whiteboard showcases as well as Science, Mathematics and LOTE showcases. 

Software For Education Program (S4E) makes software products available to Victorian schools and universities at significantly reduced prices. The software chosen for the S4E program is widely used in Victorian educational institutions. The S4E website describes the software, including specifications, cost, licensing and copyright policies, and includes information about Microsoft, Apple and Symantec Antivirus software. Use the A-Z facility to search for specific software titles.

EduSTAR software - software on eduSTAR is available to schools through the Department’s School Technology Architecture and Resources (eduSTAR) standard platform. The eduSTAR program provides schools with standardised models, patterns, management practice and tools in order to deliver an effective mix of educational software and tools to enable teachers and students to access and embrace the Ultranet. There are currently over 80 software applications available on the eduSTAR software list and 24 video tutorials. The broad range of applications cover:

  • animation, digital video, image creation, drawing and painting
  • thinking skills, concept and Mind Mapping 
  • interactive curricular resources
  • logic and problem-solving, 3D modelling and game-making
  • presentation, multimedia tools, writing tools, web authoring tools and typing tutors
  • sound and music making.

21st Century Skills is developed by leaders in the US IT industry. This website has a range of initiatives to develop student ICT capability. It includes frameworks and online resources.

Australian Bureau of Statistics: CensusAtSchool
CensusAtSchool is a student-centered, online data collection and analysis project run by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. On CensusAtSchool, students can use the random sampler to extract and analyse real data using Microsoft Excel. Classroom activities based on data collected from students are supported by this site.
