Overview of Digital Learning Resources

The FUSE online portal provides all Victorian government teachers with great educational digital learning resources, including The Learning Federation(TLF) digital learning objects.

There are also thousands of other digital resources that are freely available in schools through FUSE, including archival resources from museums, art galleries and other Australian cultural institutions.

All of the digital content on FUSE is available to teachers from within your school or outside.

Learning and teaching benefits

Digital learning resources can play a central role in student learning, enabling schools to innovate with ICT and develop effective learning and teaching practices that can transform the way students learn.  FUSE's flexible multimedia objects can be used to develop, assess or reinforce concepts and procedures. They help students develop the digital, visual and information literacy skills they need to thrive in the 21st Century.

How do I use them in the classroom?

You can integrate  digital learning objects into a sequence of student learning activities, which includes routine classroom activities away from a computer. Digital learning objects can:

  • facilitate instruction of commonly taught concepts, applications and skills from basic to more complex
  • simulate concepts and practices difficult to replicate in school classrooms because of safety, time and cost
  • allow for self-paced learning and opportunities for students to revisit and revise content and skills
  • cater for different student learning modes and abilities
  • foster ICT skill development
  • stimulate the imagination of teachers and students to create their own learning objects.

Digital learning resources

Their are three main categories in the digital learning resources accessible through FUSE.

Learning Objects

Learning objects are chunks of digital material, such as graphics, text, audio, animation, interactive tools, specifically designed to engage and motivate students to learn.

Digital Resources

Digital resources are digital content gathered from a range of cultural institutions. They are single assets such as moving images, photos and audio files.

In contrast to learning objects, which have in-built instructional design, teachers and students can use the digital resources in a range of flexible ways to suit their own curriculum needs.

Teacher Created Resources

Teacher created resources are resources provided by Victorian government schools and through initiatives supported by the Department of Education.

Technical requirements

FUSE learning resources use Flash and Shockwave software. These file formats will allow you to use the one object through multiple computer platforms, and they are are transferable over the Internet.
