Assessment

This section contains information, resources and tools to help teachers make a consistent and balanced assessment of student achievement in Health and Physical Education.

Health and Physical Education Assessments

These assessments for Health and Physical Education were developed in 2010 as part of a project known as the Sample Assessment Project (SAP).  The project developed a range of validated, on-demand assessment tasks for use with students in Years 3-4, 7-8 and 9-10.  These tasks can be downloaded for use with students in hard copy and electronic format.

The tasks were validated through a random sample involving students in Years 4, 6, 8 and 10 from 261 government schools. This random sample was also used to gather state-wide achievement data on government school students.

To access the assessment tasks, as well as the student achievement data, see: Health and Physical Education Assessments

PHASE Assessment and Reporting

This resource explains the various forms of assessment within VELS – assessment as, of and for learning – and provides sample assessment tools. It examines reporting in relation to the VELS report card, including gathering evidence of learning, the aim of progression points and writing comments.

VCAA Health and Physical Education assessment maps

This tool helps teachers assess student work using the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS). They provide a range of annotated student work samples which can be used in conjunction with the progression points to help teachers make consistent and balanced judgments about student achievement.
