Who can participate?

The program is open to literacy leaders in primary and secondary schools who would like to develop their literacy leadership capabilities and plan opportunities for professional learning for whole staff, in professional learning teams and/or for individual teachers.

What will I learn?

The Literacy Leader Professional Learning Program is designed to assist participants to deepen their knowledge and understanding about literacy and to build their capacity to create the conditions that will improve literacy learning and teaching in their school.

The program aims to:

  • provide opportunities to explore the Literacy Professional Learning Resource;
  • deepen literacy knowledge and understanding;
  • build the capacity of literacy leaders to work with professional learning teams; and
  • increase participants’ understanding of literacy across the VELS domains.

How is the program structured?

There is a Primary and Secondary program. The programs are delivered regionally, over three days and include:

  • opportunities to explore the Literacy Professional Learning Resource through individual and group activities;
  • links between theories and practice;
  • opportunities to explore professional learning for whole staff, professional learning teams and individuals within schools; and
  • the development of an implementation plan for professional learning in their school.

What assistance is provided?

The cost of the program is covered. This includes all workshop expenses such as material and meals. Where necessary, additional accommodation will be provided for participants who have travelled more than two hours to attend.

What is expected of me?

Participants are expected to:

  • actively participate in all activities associated with the program ;
  • support the learning of others; and
  • be prepared to share information and their learning experiences with their peers.
