Writing videos at level 1.5

This series of writing videos are presented to support teachers to make consistent and accurate judgements of students’ progress in writing, against the writing dimension of the English Victorian Essential Learning Standards. The videos depict student-teacher interactions, which highlight typical student behaviours that reflect the writing standards and progression points. They may be viewed to generate professional conversations about student learning and to report on student progress.

A student progressing towards Level 2 Writing Standard and who is presently at 1.5

Can experiment with a range of short text types; for example, recounts, letters, lists, procedures

 

Can sequence a small number of ideas in short texts for different purposes and audiences

 

Can reread their own writing, checking that it makes sense

 

Can combine writing with drawings or computer graphics to support meaning

 

Can correct spelling of some high-frequency words and plausible attempts at spelling unfamiliar words
