Digital learning in Design, Creativity and Technology

australianscreen (http://australianscreen.com.au/education) – Is developed in partnership with the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) by Curriculum Corporation through The Le@rning Federation. The site brings together material from the vast collections of the NFSA, the National Archives of Australia, the ABC, SBS, and AIATSIS in a unique collaboration. It represents over 1,300 Australian feature films, documentaries, television programs, newsreels, advertisements, short films, animations and home-movies produced over the last 100 years, with clips and curators’ and teachers’ notes. All material is made available with the permission of the copyright holders. The resource includes many clips on science and technology, society, identity and culture.

BBC Learning (http://www.bbc.co.uk/learning/subjects/food_and_catering.shtml) – Provides an extensive array of digital resources to support the food technology classroom.

Connect – Includes unique environments for teachers, primary and secondary students. Users can search for websites, images, video and audio with all resources tagged according to audience. Topic lists of websites are clustered under the VELS.

Digilearn - Is the new way teachers can access and download The Learning Federation’s learning objects and digital resources. Teachers are now able to search online by keyword or browse by Domain to discover hundreds of different digital learning resources.

Web 2.0 technologies: Where to start (PPT - 3.7Mb) – A very useful and timely slide show on web 2.0 technologies and how they might be used in a home economics classroom. This was presented by Anne Mirtschin of Hawkesdale P – 12 College at the Home Economics Victoria conference in December 2008.

Design, Creativity and Technology related websites

Concepts and skills charts – Design, Creativity and Technology (http://vels.vcaa.vic.edu.au/support/domainsupport/design/concept.html) – The charts, from the VCAA, are designed to support teacher understanding of the key concepts and skills in the standards and provide guidance for planning appropriate teaching, learning and assessment activities.

Craft Victoria (http://www.craftvic.asn.au) – Craft Victoria fosters creativity, experimentation and professionalism in contemporary craft and design. The organisation enhances awareness of Australian craft and by presenting craft and design to a wide range of audiences and promoting craft values through exhibitions, our retail space Counter, publications and public programs.

Design and Technology Teachers' Association Victoria (http://www.datta.vic.edu.au) – Contains information and web links to resources and information on wood, solar power, health and safety, science and technology, primary technology, metals, plastics, systems and fabrics.

MaterialsTechnology Education Resource Center (http://www.materialseducation.org) –This US web site is the result of a project to develop a national resource Centre for Materials Technology Education (MatEd). The objective of the website is to act as a clearinghouse of teaching materials for the broad field of materials technology including wood, metals, composites, electronic/optical, plastics/polymers, ceramics and concrete. The web site contains curriculum and support materials that focus on innovative approaches to materials technology education.

Nutrition and food resources (http://www.pa.ash.org.au/tefa/heia) – This website is owned by the Home Economics Institute of Australia (HEIA) and contains links to and details of websites for teaching nutrition and food at primary, junior and senior secondary levels.

Questions on Design Victoria’s sustainable design (http://www.bindarri.com.au/design-victoria-sustainability) – This link gives useful information on sustainable design. It is the responsibility of all designers to integrate sustainable principles into design solutions, developments and innovation to help address the ever present issues of sustainability and climate change and to help build a more sustainable future for the planet.

Technology Education (http://www.teched101.com/tchr_home.htm) – This is StudentAware's free website for technology education teachers called teched101.com. The site contains free support materials for  technology education teachers such as reproducible student handouts, safety information and links to a wide range of technology websites.
