Principles of Learning and Teaching – Familiarisation Activities

Step 1: Read through the six Principles of Learning and Teaching P-12 (Word - 29Kb)

Step 2: Look at worksheet 1 (Word - 31Kb). Think about your teaching program and complete the column How is this already reflected in your teaching program?

Step 3: Consider the components of each of the 6 Principles.

Step 4: Complete the column What are the links to the components of the Principles? by identifying the specific components within each Principle that are reflected in your program.

Step 5: Discuss with a partner the synergy between your current teaching program and the Principles of Learning and Teaching P-12. Add in other connections you can make.

Step 6: Circle the components or key words in the components that are particularly challenging and discuss why you have circled these words. Write these challenges in the column What are the challenges?

Step 7: Discuss some strategies to build on what you are already doing and jot them in the column What are some strategies to prepare for these challenges?

Step 8: Use the worksheet 2 - decisions to document the aspects of your teaching program that you would like to improve and plan for how you can begin to achieve it.  Worksheet found here (Word - 29Kb).

Step 9: Add milestones to your plan. These could be reviewed at regular intervals, for example each semester.
