Student Reports - Portfolios
The aims and principles that underpin portfolios align strongly with the report card.
Many schools using portfolios already engage in ongoing assessment and reporting that provides parents and other teachers with rich and regular information, and clear samples of progress over time.
Schools are encouraged to use information directly from student portfolios and Individual Learning Plans when writing student reports, or by referring to the information contained in the portfolio on the report card
To avoid unnecessary duplication, primary schools that use portfolios must complete the following sections of the student report card:
- ‘What student has achieved’
- ‘Areas for improvement and future learning’
- ‘Attendance’.
Other sections in Part 2 of the primary report card can be left blank or deleted if they are reported on in the portfolio.
Similarly in secondary schools, if learning goals and comment on progress towards them from the teacher, the student and the parent are explicitly included in portfolios used in secondary schools, they do not need to be repeated on the report card.
