The Victorian Essential Learning Standards
The Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) describe what is essential for Victorian students to achieve from Prep to Year 10. They provide a whole school curriculum planning framework that sets out learning standards for schools to use to plan their teaching and learning programs, including assessment and reporting of student achievement and progress.

Student Learning
Student learning involves becoming informed about what is being taught in the education system, how work is assessed, and the types of educational resources and programs available. The resource includes information about assessment, curriculum planning, learning and teaching resources and research, Principles of Learning and Teaching, programs, stages of learning, student learning newsletters and student reports

The Principles of Learning and Teaching
The Principles of Learning and Teaching section contains the six principles and their components with professional learning support materials including the PoLT online resource, data collection tools and case studies.

Assessment
Assessment is a vital process to provide information about what students know and can do, and to make recommendations for their future learning. Current information about this aspect of teaching covers Prep to Year 10 and Year 10 to 12 Assessment.

Student Reports
The Victorian Government has introduced commonsense report cards. The report cards are written in plain English, giving parents a clearer picture of their child’s progress against expected state-wide standards. Topics include information for parents, schools, software developers, sample student report cards, case studies, fact sheets and contacts.

Assessment Professional Learning Modules
The modules include strategies to strengthen capacity to use assessment to drive teaching that promotes deep understanding and powerful learning, and assess students' progress towards the achievement of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards.
