English as a Second Language (ESL) report cards

The progress of ESL students can be reported using the DEECD (QuickVic) software Version 2.94, released in February 2008. See the Report Coordinator Release Notes for information about how to set up ESL reports. The ESL report is a single page, without any other subject reports on it.

For reporting on the achievement of ESL students in the domain of English, teachers will need to choose to report on ESL rather than English. When reporting against the ESL standards, students are placed in one of three broad bands:

A Stages (Years Prep–2)
B Stages (Years 3–6)
S Stages (Years 7–10).

In all of the ESL stages students are assessed in the dimensions of Listening and speaking, Reading and Writing.

Teachers will need to decide which ESL stage and sub-stage their student in, for each of the dimensions, for example:

  • a student Beginning Stage B2 Reading will score B2.1
  • a student Progressing through Stage B2 Reading will score B2.2
  • a student who has Achieved Stage B2 Reading will be at B2.3
