Programs – School Sport Victoria
School Sport Victoria (SSV) supports teachers in the delivery of quality physical and sport education programs. SSV is run by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s (DEECD) School Sport Unit.
SSV supports the delivery of inter-school sporting competitions to Victorian students through the programs of the Victorian Primary Schools Sports Association (VPSSA) and the Victorian Secondary Schools Sports Association (VSSSA).

Structure of School Sport In Victoria - Review Implementation
School Sport Victoria Operating Procedures (PDF) - The proposed Operating Procedures outline the structure and management for School Sport Victoria for transition and foreshadow full implementation for 2011. These Operating Procedures will be discussed at both associations AGM.

Victorian Primary Schools' Sports Association and Victorian Secondary Schools' Sports Association Reorganisation Model

Statewide and national sports organisations
Victorian Primary Schools Sports Association (VPSSA)
The VPSSA is a sub committee of the Department of Education & Early Childhood Development (DEECD). The VPSSA conducts school sport for all primary school students in Victoria. Affiliation with the VPSSA is open to all government, catholic and independent primary schools in Victoria.
Victorian Secondary Schools Sport Association (VSSSA)
The VSSSA mission is to provide quality sporting opportunities to promote physical and social development for all secondary students in Victoria. The VSSSA caters for non-government schools also in its interstate program. Only government schools can participate in the inter-school program.
School Sport Australia (SSA)
Since its establishment in 1981, SSA has been responsible for the development and promotion of school sport in Australia. The VPSSA and the VSSSA are the Department’s representatives on the SSA Primary and Secondary Management Committees.
Sports awards
Victorian School Sports Awards
The annual Victorian School Sports Awards are the highest sporting accolade in the Victorian primary and secondary government school sectors. The awards recognise excellence across all categories of school sport and are open to students, teams, coaches and volunteers.
Victorian Olympic Council - Pierre de Coubertin Award
In 1997, the Pierre de Coubertin Award was introduced into Victorian secondary schools to recognise students who seek to enhance their potential through sport. The award embodies the Olympic ideals of joy of effort, fair play, respect for others, pursuit of excellence and balance between body, will and mind.
School programs
Victorian Teachers Games
The Victorian Teachers Games are an opportunity for teachers at all government schools to participate in a sporting event with their work colleagues. The Games are hosted by the Department’s country regions.
Victorian Institute of Sport Sportsperson in Schools Program
This program is a joint initiative between the Department and the Victorian Institute of Sport. It facilitates school visits by some of Australia’s highest profile athletes, promoting the benefits of organised physical activity and healthy lifestyles for students. The program is provided at no cost to all Victorian government schools.
