Studies of Asia

A studies of Asia program embeds study of the history, geography, literature, popular culture and traditional arts of the countries of Asia in the domains of Humanities, English and The Arts. 

The Victorian Studies of Asia program provides professional learning for school staff seeking to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to help them live, learn and work in a connected world.

Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC)

The VEOHRC provides provide education and consultancy services to the Victorian community in regards to equal opportunity and human rights issues.

Foundation House Training Modules

Foundation House offers a range of programs, curriculum materials and counselling services assisting school communities to develop a supportive environment for refugee students and their families. These offerings range from early intervention programs to whole school initiatives and lessons

Global Education Project

The Global Education Project officers offers consultancy to all schools, networks and clusters throughout Victoria to provide a global perspective across learning domains. The project officers can also offer professional development programs that are tailored to a school’s specific needs.

Education Dialogue Project: La Trobe University

The project seeks to promote the use of dialogue to heighten intercultural awareness within secondary schools in Victoria. It seeks to confront ignorance and give a voice to marginalized groups within society. The project has two distinct strategies to promote cultural awareness. They are:

  • Workshops focused on intercultural dialogue for secondary school teachers
  • Collaboration with selected schools. Projects are developed according to a school’s particular ethos, curriculum or professional learning focus.

Diversity-an Educational Advantage Project: Deakin University

This project has focused on the challenges faced by Arabic speaking students, many of whom are newly arrived in Australia, in northern metropolitan Melbourne. The study focused on student motivation, parental attitudes to school and teaching practices that impact on the students’ academic achievements and inclusion in school life.

The Deakin University project team offers support and advice to teachers interested in whole of school approaches to engagement and inclusive strategies for students from culturally diverse backgrounds, particularly Arabic backgrounds. The findings of the project offer an opportunity to:

  • explore the issues of inclusion
  • develop strategies to:
  • emphasise intercultural relationships
  • recognise and value diversity
  • challenge inequality.
