Events and programs: Cultural Diversity Quest (17-23 March)

The annual Cultural Diversity Quest is a highlight of Cultural Diversity Week and is open to all Victorian students. The quest gives our young people the opportunity to explore, express and celebrate Victoria’s cultural diversity through a range of media including art, design, digital media, photography and writing. The quest offers great prizes for students, schools and teachers as well as recognition for your school.

Victorian Multicultural Commission Community Grants Program

Schools are invited to apply to the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) for grants to assist with the conduct of community activities under the Commission's Multicultural Festivals and Events Grants program. This includes a small grants program encouraging schools to conduct an event or celebration as part of the Cultural Diversity Quest.

For more information, see Victorian Multicultural Commission (http://www.multicultural.vic.gov.au/web24/vmc.nsf/headingpagesdisplay/grants)

Celebrate Our Cultural Diversity Week

Schools are encouraged to involve their staff, students and communities in activities that celebrate cultural diversity and the elimination of racism. Teachers could consider a range of curriculum, extra curricular or whole school events to help celebrate Cultural Diversity Week and highlight the advantages of cultural and linguistic diversity. These could include:

  • a literature focus with a theme of inclusiveness and cultural diversity for the classroom
  • organising a student forum or debate on a related topic
  • selecting units of work from Racism No Way! – the web based resource for schools includes lesson plans and ideas for teachers.
