Victorian Government Social Policy Plans

Fairer Victoria

A Fairer Victoria is a whole of Government social policy action plan to address disadvantage and promote inclusion and participation.

The framework seeks to:

  • combine service provision with new methods of strengthening communities
  • develop policy frameworks that tackle inequality and disadvantage.

A Fairer Victoria 2008 provides over $1 billion to help Victoria’s most vulnerable families access extra support and services and share in the opportunities open to all Victorians.

Growing Victoria Together

Growing Victoria Together (GVT) is a ten-year visionary plan that articulates what is important for Victorians and the priorities for a better society. It provides a vision for Victoria to have caring, safe communities in which opportunities are fairly shared and citizens have access to the highest quality health care and education services.

To demonstrate progress, GVT identifies some key targets for Victorian schools:

  • Victorian children will be at or above national benchmark levels for reading, writing and numeracy
  • 90% of young people in Victoria will successfully complete Year 12 or its equivalent by 2010.
