For some gifted and high potential students it may be appropriate to undertake VCE subjects in years prior to Year 11 to ensure that the curriculum is sufficiently challenging and matches their learning needs.
Gifted students may successfully complete subject requirements in a shorter time span than usual. Students are able to undertake a broader range of subjects which can be studied in greater depth. This can be helpful for those students who are interested in both humanities and sciences and want to study the range at an advanced level.
VCE Extension Studies provide highly able students with the opportunity to extend their interest in a subject by undertaking the study of a first-year university subject in Year 12. This can be intellectually rewarding and will count as a VCE study.
Programs are available on a university campus, school campus or through distance education.
