Teacher Subsidies for TESOL Training in 2012
Applications for 2012 have closed.
The Department is committed to increasing the number of qualified English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers in government schools. Opportunities were made available to teachers who met the selection criteria to participate in an approved university Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Information about the 2012 subsidy (now closed)
- The Department will cover tuition costs for the course – universities will invoice the Department directly for your fees upon your enrolment
- Casual Relief Teacher (CRT) support will be provided in 2012 to enable completion of the required teaching practicum and 4 study leave days per unit per semester (pro-rata for part time teachers). Business Managers will be requested to invoice the Department each Semester
- Successful applicants received a letter of agreement outlining the terms and conditions of the TESOL subsidy, including tax implications
- Applicants must sign and return their letter of agreement, including signed principal endorsement to receive a 2012 TESOL subsidy.
Subsidies are allocated according to the following selection criteria:
- The percentage of ESL students in the applicant’s school
- Relevant ESL experience
- Evidence of participation in previous ESL professional development
- Demonstrated future commitment to ESL teaching in government schools
- Full completion of online application.
Teachers receiving a DEECD TESOL subsidy need to reapply each year to continue their studies.
