This section contains drug education resources for schools and teachers to assist with drug related issues involving truancy and student retention.
These resources can be used within all four domains of the Physical, Personal and Social Learning strand of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards and assist schools to apply the Principles of Learning and Teaching

Get Real - A Harm Minimisation Approach to Drug Education consists of a number of booklets that provide advice and assistance to schools. The booklets provide drug education curriculum, student welfare support and appropriate responses to manage drug-related incidents.

In Tune - Students Participating in Drug Education (PDF - 10.0Mb) - brings students and teachers together to work towards a common solution to address drug issues in schools. The In Tune program comprises two parts.
The Victorian Tobacco Control Strategy 2008 – 2013 announces the ban of smoking on school grounds. Minister Bronwyn Pike will announce the ban on 1 July 2009. In accordance with the ban the following smoke-free school resources have been updated to reflect the new policy. The Smoke Free Schools resources comprise three manuals with guidelines and classroom support materials for teachers and schools engaged in smoking-related drug education activities.

The Ministerial Order to ban smoking on Victorian Government school grounds will take effect on 1 July 2009. The Smoke Free School signs can be downloaded to promote the ban on smoking in Victorian Government schools.

The main aim of Tobacco: A Case For Action, an electronic research and problem solving activity for Years 7/8 is to educate young people about nicotine addiction prior to experimentation. Students can work individually or in teams to engage in discussions and debate; undertake research; think deeply; and present a coherent and complex argument. This activity complements the Smoke Free Schools resource developed by DEECD. The resource is made available to government schools from the department's ePotential ICT Capabilities Resource

A webquest under age drinking: rating the risk, An Interactive Research Activity About Alcohol for Years 7 and 8 is available for use by Year 7 and 8 students.
This is a research and problem-solving unit of work that encourages students to undertake a comprehensive assessment of alcohol consumption and risk from a range of perspectives. These perspectives include health (safety perspective), civic and citizenship (legal perspective) and interpersonal development (attitudes and values perspective). The students' task is to determine the level of risk and then to decide what to do about it. Students will benefit from classroom discussion as well as teacher and peer support.The resource is made available to government schools from the department's e potential website.

Celebrate Safely - Student Brochure (PDF - 949Kb) - is based on research with young people and includes tips about celebrating safely and what to do in an emergency.
Celebrate Safely - Parent Brochure (PDF - 989Kb) - highlights issues to consider when holding a teenage party, the importance of communication between parents and young people and on being a role model for teenagers.
