Social-linguistic profile
The socio-linguistic profile (Word - 36Kb) can be used to obtain an understanding of students' language background and learning experiences.
A socio-linguistic profile provides teachers working with students from a language background other than English with insight into a student's language and learning experiences. This will help better support the student's learning needs.
Identify the knowledge, skills and behaviours of students for whom English is a second language (ESL)
The knowledge, skills and behaviours tool (Word - 29Kb) is intended to be used after the student socio-linguistic profile is compiled, which identifies students' language needs. Identify which broad quadrant a student fits into and then decide on a focused learning and teaching program for the student.
ESL students develop new skills and understandings across domains at the same time as they are learning English. Individual students will be at different points in their English language learning and in the understandings in a particular domain.
Identification of and program development for these students may need to include assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviours of a domain in English and, where appropriate, assessment of English language usage in the domain, and assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviours of a particular domain in the student's first language.

Defining Gifted, Talented and High Potential Students (Word - 132Kb) provides information about defining giftedness and talent.
