Victorian assessment resources
Closing the Loop - the conceptual basis of the strategies to improve student learning (PDF - 568Kb) - A paper from the Office of Learning and Teaching that explains in detail the conceptual basis of the strategies to improve student learning in all Victorian schools and shows the consistency established between curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and reporting.
Blueprint for Government Schools (PDF - 167Kb) - provides the framework for an effective Victorian government school system with effective teachers, effective leaders and effective schools. The Blueprint outlines seven flagship strategies and incorporates a range of initiatives under three important themes of recognising and responding to diverse students needs, building the skills that we need in our education workforce and engendering a culture of continuous improvement in our schools.
Assessment and reporting conference – 2005 - outlines the conference held on 21 October 2005 in Melbourne focused on using data to inform learning and teaching, enhancing the quality of school assessment and reporting practices and developing an assessment culture to improve student learning.
Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) (http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au) - provides information on assessment for Years Prep to 10 (CSF and AIM) and for Senior Secondary (VCE,VCAL and VET). It also provides principles for assessment and advice for assessing within the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS).

Australian Council on Educational Research (ACER) (http://www.acer.edu.au/) - provides educational research, products and services, including assessment and test administration services. The website contains research, test, publications, professional learning opportunities and information about their library services.
Learning, Teaching and Assessment Guide – Department of Education, Tasmania (http://ltag.education.tas.gov.au/default.htm) - a resource for educators and school communities implementing the Essential Learnings. Includes information about effective teaching, assessing, planning, professional learning, transforming schools and working with parents and the community.
South Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability Framework (SACSA) (http://www.sacsa.sa.edu.au/index_fsrc.asp?t=AA) - provides educators with information and processes about monitoring, recording, reflecting on, and making consistent and reliable judgments about learners and their achievement.
Western Australia Department of Education - Monitoring Standards in Education (http://www.eddept.wa.edu.au/mse/materials.html) - contains information on assessment and reporting for Western Australian schools. It provides resources and professional learning developed to help schools and teachers to collect, analyse and use data for improvement purposes.

Assessment Reform Group - Assessment for Learning (http://www.assessment-reform-group.org) - the aim of the Assessment Reform Group (ARG) is to ensure that assessment policy and practice at all levels takes account of relevant research evidence. This ARG site includes information about assessment projects and a number of useful downloadable publications and links.
Association for Achievement and Improvement through Assessment (http://www.aaia.org.uk/) - this is a well developed web site containing a wealth of materials and links for assessment in education.
Ideas and Rubrics - Chicago Public Schools (http://intranet.cps.k12.il.us/Assessments/Ideas_and_Rubrics/ideas_and_rubrics.html) - provides a step-by-step approach to developing rubrics and also contains assessment resources and a rubric bank.

It contains readings, case studies and resources that may be useful when planning assessment.
Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) (http://www.oecd.org/about/0,2337,en_2649_37455_1_1_1_1_37455,00.html) - provides information on education work undertaken by the OECD. Work includes thematic reviews in specific policy areas, and collection of detailed statistical information on education systems, including measures of the competence levels of individuals.
Project Zero (http://pzweb.harvard.edu/Research/ResearchAssess.htm) - an educational research group at the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University. Its mission is to understand and enhance learning, thinking, and creativity in the arts, in humanistic and scientific disciplines, at individual and institutional levels. This site features a number of assessment research projects.

The Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (USA) (http://www.nwrel.org/assessment/toolkit98.php) - contains tools to help classroom teachers become better assessors of student learning. The tools aim to integrate assessment and to see assessing as a process rather than a product. The tools also encourage students to be active participants who share responsibility in the assessment process, practise self-evaluation, reflection, and collaboration and conduct a continuous dialogue with their teachers.
