Jennifer Peart finished school lost and directionless and soon after discovered she was pregnant.
An event that could have derailed her life has turned out to be a huge impetus and, with the help of The Gordon Institute of TAFE in Geelong, Jennifer has found her path, studying veterinary nursing.
"I started when Evie was 12 weeks old and The Gordon couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating. I studied part time and I’d go over to the childcare centre to feed her at lunchtime," explains Jennifer, who is now 23.
Jennifer, a finalist in this year’s Victorian Training Awards, made the most of her time at The Gordon. "If you work hard and apply yourself, the teachers help you and help you get a placement."
The young mother is now working as a veterinary nurse and has begun studying a Bachelor of Zoology and Animal Science part time at Deakin University. She also finds time to volunteer at Werribee Zoo. "In five years’ time, I’ll have five years of work experience and a degree."
