Structured workplace learning is on the job training during which a student is expected to master a set of skills or competencies, related to a course accredited by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA). These include Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools programs, Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).
The structured workplace learning manual contains information that will assist school based staff to develop, coordinate and manage quality structured workplace learning programs for their students. It includes:
which provide the operational framework for structured workplace learning arrangements.
The Structured Workplace Learning Arrangement Form is to be completed and signed by the student, parent (if the student is under 18 years of age), the employer and the principal.
The Structured Workplace Learning Arrangement Form and employer guidelines below may be printed in either colour or black and white, and are designed to be faxed if necessary.
PLEASE NOTE: As per the wording in Ministerial Order 55, the section of the Structured Workplace Learning form headed Principals Consent has been amended to read as follows: "the student is required to 'undertake' training in accredited occupational health and safety". The word 'undertake' has replaced the word 'complete'. Please note that there has been no change to Ministerial Order 55.
Prior to entering into an arrangement, the Principal must be satisfied that the student has undertaken training in accredited occupational health and safety relevant to the workplace where the student will be employed under a Structured Workplace Learning arrangement. Refer to Ministerial Order 55, 8 (1)

Reciprocal arrangements are in place for Victorian students to undertake structured workplace learning in New South Wales and South Australia.
These arrangements are primarily for students in those schools situated in regions adjoining the borders. Students should be encouraged to find work placements in their own state in preference to interstate placements. Prior to arranging interstate work placements permission must be sought from the New South Wales Department of Education or the South Australian Department of Education and Children’s Services.
** Interstate structured workplace learning placements may only be arranged as a last resort.
