Industry Placement Program

In 2006, the Minister for Education announced two new professional development initiatives for teachers in government schools. The Career Education Scholarships program and the Industry Placements program aim to enhance the capacity of careers coordinators/teachers in government schools to provide quality, up to date and accurate information and assistance to students.

Careers coordinators/teachers in government schools are encouraged to apply for these programs, which will run during 2007 and 2008. Full CRT cover is to facilitate teacher release to participate in the programs.

What does the Industry Placement Program offer?

Twenty places have been made available in 2007 and again in 2008 for careers coordinators in government schools to undertake a three week placement with employers in a range of industries, or in a Group Training company, to develop a project that will better inform young people of industry pathways. Projects might involve:

Successful applicants will also undertake a two day VET familiarisation program to gain first hand knowledge of VET programs and pathways. Travel and accommodation costs for the two day forum and the VET familiarisation program will be met by DoE for successful regional applicants. Placements for regional applicants will be located in their region where possible.

Who is eligible to participate in these programs?
