Effective Strategies to Increase School Completion
The Effective Strategies to Increase School Completion Report
The Report was commissioned by the Youth Transitions Division and developed by Associate Professor Stephen Lamb and Dr Suzanne Rice from the University of Melbourne. The Report identifies effective intervention strategies to improve student engagement and increase rates of school completion that are within the capacity of the school to deliver.
A Guide to Help Schools Increase School Completion
Associate Professor Stephen Lamb and Dr Suzanne Rice have also developed a Guide to help schools increase school completion that documents how the effective intervention strategies identified in the Report can be implemented by schools. The Guide explores how schools can plan and implement the strategies to improve student engagement and increase student retention and how to put these effective strategies to work in the school and community.
The Conference
The Report and the Guide were launched at a very successful Effective Strategies to Increase School Completion conference held on 28 November 2008 at Telstra Dome.
Key findings from the Effective Strategies to Increase School Completion Report were presented at the conference. Schools that participated in the Effective Strategies project described the approaches they have used to increase school completion rates and how they have overcome barriers to success.
Over 300 people attended the conference. Attendees included: school principals and teachers, careers and MIPs coordinators, staff from DEECD regional offices, university researchers, external stakeholders such as the LLENs and non-government agencies, and officers from DEECD and other Victorian and federal government departments.
